Before I give you some of my favourite affirmations for boosting self-esteem and confidence and increasing self-love, I want to say a few words about how changing our thoughts can change our results in life and how affirmations can help with this.
WORDS HAVE POWER
If you’re into self-development &/or are on your own self-discovery or healing journey, you’ve probably heard of and maybe used affirmations before. As a hypnotherapist and Rapid Transformational Therapist, I fully believe in the power that words have on our thought processes and our feelings and how changing our thoughts and feelings can change our lives for the better.
Our minds respond to the way that we talk to ourselves (our thoughts and beliefs). When we feed the mind negative, critical self-talk this has a negative influence on the way we feel. Our thoughts and feelings then affect how we show up in the world; our behaviours and actions (or inactions). And what we do (or don’t do) creates negative or positive results in our lives.
YOUR THOUGHTS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
For example, imagine we want more confidence in a certain area of our life, (maybe relationships). If we tell ourselves that we are really unlucky in love, we always meet the wrong sort of people and this is never going to change, we can become quite down and feel like we don’t want to try to even look for a partner, because we believe it will turn out badly.
If instead, we change the thought to “I know exactly what I don’t want now and so this will help me to find more of what I do want in a relationship.” Your feelings also change to more positive emotions such as optimism, hopefulness, anticipation etc. This will motivate you more towards positive actions and feeling good, which is a much better energy for attracting someone that will be good for you.
WHY USING AFFIRMATIONS IS SO POWERFUL
The word affirmation comes from the Latin verb affirmare, meaning to make steady and to strengthen. Affirmations are positive, empowering statements that we can recite to ourselves daily for the purpose of self-development and improvement. They should be said out loud (if possible). Words are so important; we influence the world with our words. By speaking our intentions out loud, we emit a sound wave of what we want out to the universe. Affirmations help us break negative thought patterns, and by speaking them confidently and positively, we can command and reprogram the subconscious mind.
HOW TO USE AFFIRMATIONS?
As mentioned, if possible say the words out-loud daily. Some people like to say them to themselves whilst looking at their reflection in the mirror. I like to sit with my list of affirmations and spend a few minutes every morning repeating them 1-2 x each, and then I pause, allowing the positive emotions to vibrate in the body and taking some deep breaths to fully experience the feelings.
If you believe in energies and the law of attraction this action allows us to vibrate at a much higher level therefore attracting to us positive, high-frequency situations and opportunities.
This practice can take 20 minutes or so in the morning, but is well worth it because you are filling up your own cup first and this allows you to come at the day with a positive mental and emotional attitude, knowing that whatever happens during the day you are loving and kind to yourself.
This is a great foundation for dealing with adversities, stress as well as helping our minds to focus, concentrate, problem solve and be creative. I find that by giving myself this self-love practice in the mornings helps me to be more productive and happy during the day.
